This would make the time lapse appear herky jerky. If, for example, the shutter time is only 1/60 second and the interval is set at four seconds then you would have four frames in a span of roughly 2/3 second (The D7100 shoots at 6 fps to 14-bit RAW) followed by a gap of 3 1/3 seconds before the next burst of four frames. Tethering rocks!!!! And yes I know the D80 and the D7000/D7100 can tether. I am not sure of the D40. I use Apple Aperture to tether. Can you use your mac as a monitor for a windows pc. If you are on a Mac you can also get Sofortbild, and it is free. Lightroom will also do tethered shooting. I think CaptureNX will tether, but I am not sure. Never owned a smart phone or tablet, so I need tutorials on the subject. Good links, books, etc. Very technical, but starting at ground zero with this technology. What I think I need: • Hardware interface to the D7100; wired or wireless. • Tablet, leaning toward a Kindle, but know very little about these devices except that I have seen others use them to connect to the Internet. (Which, since I REFUSE to get a smartphone, have told that I getting one.) • Software interface to do the other tethering. Controlling the camera when it's in awkward positions is mandatory, but the ability to view pictures would be very helpful. Ability to see what LiveView is seeing, is a must. What format does hard drive need to be for mac and windows. Once started, you can't stop a format without causing problems. From, the next time I plug in nada nothing happens and HDD is not detected. Plus the issue of not being detected when plugged into a 3.0 port is not isolated with the Ultra model on just 10 alone ruling the version as the cause. PS: I have checked health of HDD via HDtune and other software as well and its perfectly healthy + the cable is all good to go. How to open my passport external hard drive. Niels There are some decent apps that work with laptops. I've had nothing but frustration trying to control DSLRs with tablets / phones. ![]() A Kindle would be questionable, as I'm not sure you have full access to the same apps. I eventually gave up and got one of these. To do what you're wanting to do, I believe you would be extremely disappointed with a Kindle, and that's assuming it would do what you want (I do not believe it would). As an amateur/enthusiast photographer, I wouldn't consider anything less than a Surface Pro. You'll have a USB port for the option to wire in when wanted. You'll have a high-resolution screen. You'll have powerful hardware to handle large files.
